Barnardos Ireland - Change Their Story
When it comes to trauma, it can be easier to tell a lie than to be honest.
For troubled children, you need to get to the truth of their story before you can begin to change it.
That's what Barnardos careworkers do day in, day out, and that's the subject of our film.
Told beautifully by the wonderfully talented and collaborative David J. Leon, and made posible by Iconoclast. Thank you for all the chats, love and care and going above and beyond for this.

We wanted to try and physically show how both Barnardos’, and the public’s interventions can have a direct impact on the stories of the chldrens in their care, improving their lives for the better.
In order to be able to show an authentic journey through a troubled childhood, while protecting real-life cases, we enlisted a pioneering AI technique. Hundreds of facial expressions from a young man and woman were captured and fed into an AI model along with real-life images from their own childhoods. This allowed an accurate depiction of their ageing through childhood while ensuring authenticity and privacy, and avoided any ethical issues around the unlicensed AI use of children’s images.
BBH Dublin then worked closely with Barnardo’s to select the best images that exemplify authentic feelings, representing each stage of a child’s potential journey, from vulnerability to fear and anger to despair. Until the most important image of all – a young adult with a look and feeling of genuine hope, thanks to the work of the charity.
